Acelen, an energy company owned by Mubadala Capital, has already generated more than R$380 million in operational gains at the Mataripe Refinery in Bahia thanks to artificial intelligence, industrial automation, and digital transformation projects implemented since the company began operations four years ago.<\/p>\n
With a modernization plan totaling nearly R$4 billion, the refinery has enhanced efficiency, safety, and operational reliability through the integration of AI, smart sensors, robotics, and real-time digital systems. This advancement positions the Mataripe Refinery among the leading examples of industrial innovation and Industry 4.0 in the energy industry across the Americas, as recognized by Gartner.<\/p>\n
Among the key digital solutions implemented by the company are:<\/p>\n
\ufe0f<\/span> Intelligent monitoring of more than 1,100 devices using AI, reducing corrective interventions by 53% and extending the mean time between failures to more than 830 days;<\/p>\n \ufe0f<\/span> Digital twins for real-time monitoring of energy consumption and emissions, with an estimated potential to reduce energy costs by R$15 million per year;<\/p>\n \ufe0f<\/span> Computer vision systems for automatic leak detection, enabling identification up to nine times faster and a potential reduction in losses equivalent to 13,500 metric tons of steam per year;<\/p>\n \ufe0f<\/span> Drones, robotics, and thermography in industrial inspections, reducing human exposure in confined spaces by 60% and increasing the plant\u2019<\/span>s operational availability by 44%; and<\/p>\n \ufe0f<\/span> CatalyzeAI, an intelligent catalyst monitoring system that generated an estimated economic impact of R$300 million between 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n The company has also expanded its use of generative AI with the launch of AcelenGPT, an internal platform already used by more than 900 employees for data analysis, productivity, and the creation of specialized assistants for different areas of the operation.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>Artificial intelligence is already part of the refinery\u2019<\/span>s daily routine and has been increasing efficiency, safety, and operational reliability,\u201d <\/span>says Celso Ferreira, Acelen\u2019<\/span>s vice president of Operations.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s digital progress is also gaining recognition in Brazil and abroad.
